This congealing point tester is used to determine the freeze temperature of parrifin (Vaseline), under this temperature, the sample is in solid or near to solid status, and it's soft, this depends by the parrifin or Petrolatum composition, when the sample is petrolatum, the Coagulation is related with the Gel composition.
Melt the paraffin sample and stick the paraffin drop to the mercury bulb of the thermometer. Use a preheated flask as an air jacket to cool the petroleum wax stuck on the mercury bulb at a rated speed until it condenses. The freezing point can be lowered by the thermometer. When the paraffin drops stop flowing, the observed temperature is the freezing point.
